Randy Pausch

Back in April I posted about time management and a professor who lectured about it, Randy Pausch. I was impressed by Prof. Pausch and thoroughly enjoyed his lecture and trying his methods.

He was diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer in 2006 and in August 2007 was given 3-6 months to live. He tried various different treatments to fight the cancer, some new and still in the testing stages. Reading his updates page was inspiring and full of hope. Unfortunately as he got sicker, the updates understandably became few and far between and I stopped checking back regularly.

Tonight I did check back and was shocked and incredibly saddened to see that Randy Pausch passed away on the 25th of July. This must be a huge loss to the academic community, in addition to his family and friends and also to the world in general. A man that went before the senate to fight for better funding into pancreatic cancer, who captivated a nation with his “Last Lecture“, and inspired procrastinators everywhere to better manage their time, a husband and father and incredibly brave man.

Rest In Peace
