Most years we visit the top of Portsdown Hill, which overlooks the city of Portsmouth, at midnight on New Years Eve. The radio plays the sound of Big Ben from the car, and the kids run around with sparklers and we watch fireworks explode over the city, this year an added delight was Chinese Lanterns, shortly after midnight there were hundreds (thousands?) of them floating over the city and that and the fireworks made it look as if an epic battle was taking place between humans and alien ships trying to invade.
As we drove back home after all the sparklers had been exhausted and the sky had gone dark and quiet once more, the children had the wonderful idea of shouting “Happy New Year!!!” at anyone walking down the road. They got such a great reaction from people that we did this for about an hour, and the kids were having a great time. Even Rafe enjoyed shouting out his window, except once he got it wrong and shouted “BUZZ LIGHTYEAR!” by mistake. Well, that and “I LOOOOOVE YOU!!” about ten minutes later.
Happy New Year, everyone. I, for one, am happy to see the back of 2010, it was a pretty gut wrenching twelve months. My goals for 2011 are to relax and have a year as free from drama and stress as possible. I wish the same for all of you.
