Music

Here is where you’ll find the music I’m currently listening to, and what I’d like to add to my collection.

Now Playing

5 Feb- So, it’s no secret I’m struggling and trying to get through a lot of shit right now. While I mostly try and avoid over identifying with pop songs (insert eye roll here), the occasional one will resonate with me. I am far from feeling or being perfect, but this new one from Pink makes me feel a little bit less like I’m the only one.

29 Sep- Ok, so in a wonderful example of manifestation, I was complaining about not having anything inspiring to listen to- lo and behold by complete chance a google search for something else, led me to a website I had never heard of, a thought provoking blog which I have now bookmarked (http://www.lifestudent.com/hub/) and to this brilliant song. Enjoy.

28 Sep 2010- Eh. So sick of my current playlist. Nothing I hear inspires me. Have added two new bits this week.

Rihanna and Eminem (loving Eminem this year. Whoa- never thought I’d say that!)
Love the way you lie

(as an aside, I was interested in the subject matter of the song and video, especially given Rihannas involvement. I didn’t find much in the way of fact, but did trip over this hilarious “decoding” of the video. Read it. It’ll make you chuckle.

Also new this week is

Eliza Doolittle
Pack Up

As close to inspiring as I’m going to get, I think. Rock star heroin junkie turned surrogate hero daddy Charlie from Lost and that skinny OC girl in the Rihanna video weren’t exactly getting my creative juices flowing… But, come on- how hot is Dominic Monaghan?

15 Sep 2010 In a continuation of the 90’s retro theme I’ve added some Tracy Chapman and LIVE to the playlist. As a special treat I’ve included at the end one of my favourite tracks from 1994/95….. And, it felt wrong to leave out Blind Melon…

Blind Melon
“No Rain”

Fast Car

Lightning Crashes

Presidents of the United States of America
“Lump”

“Peaches”

Thinking of my life and my youth- I has an urge to listen to this song- one I have identified with ever since the first moment I heard it. Even now it is one of my all time favorites. Soul Asylum Runaway Train. Enjoy!

21 Aug 2010- Two of my favorite tracks currently are Eminems Not Afraid

and Mumford and Sons Little Lion Man

15 August 2008- Ok. Honest moment. I love The Offspring. I don’t know if I don’t like any of their songs, even the erm.. stupid…ones I like. And some I really love. I can’t explain it, there is nothing particularly unique or different about them, and sometimes they’re just plain juvenile and their songs are shallow. But whatever, I love them. I heard “You’re gonna go far, kid“, for the first time today and loved it straight away. Maybe it’s the way you know almost right off that it’s The Offspring. Noone else sounds quite the same, so maybe that is what makes them unique. Anyway, have a listen, it’s good. (if you like that sort of thing!)

13 August- Really enjoying Flogging Molly, who are described as an “Irish American celtic punk band” “Float” is the only song of theirs I can recall hearing and I quite like it. Really like the folksy yet fun yet melancholy feeling of it.

23 July- Well, after hearing it about a dozen times, I finally decided that the Violent Femmes version of Crazy was bloody good.  But, then I saw a link to Ray Lamontagne’s version at boingboing. And that was pretty good too. And then, just for kicks, there’s this.

11 July: Somehow I’ve gone my entire life without ever hearing Pulp “Common People”. But it seems appropriate that today would be the first time I hear it, given that today- I’ve never felt so common in all my life. Brilliant song.

26 June: Recently I am quite enjoying Flobots “Handlebars” and Katy Perry “I kissed a girl”

03 April: Nothing, need to get an i-pod, the train journey is quiet.

29 March: The Eagles Best Of; Desperado is usually my favorite, but this time around it’s “Heartache Tonight”

20 March: Nothing, channel surfing, it’s all crap.

13 March: This week it’s Marilyn Manson’s Lest We Forget, a best of. Particularly track 7, This Is The New Shit

The Waiting List

Sugarush Beat Company

The Imagined Village
